Puppies are generally agreeable creatures. They’d do anything for a pat, or a treat, or a smile, squeal and praise from you after having done what you wanted them to do. The thing with puppies is that they don’t know what you want if you don’t tell them. How do you tell puppies how you want them to behave and how do you train them to do it?

1. Consistency – Use the same words. Make sure everyone in the family use the same words for the same command.

2. Don’t Confuse Words – Sometimes, when puppies jump on couches or on your lap, we say “DOWN”. If you’ve trained your dog to lie down when you say “down”, the chances are he or she will continue to lie down on the couch or stay on your lap. If you want them off your couch or off your lap, say “OFF” instead. Don’t confuse words and actions. This will only confuse and frustrate your puppy more.

3. Name - Use his name when giving an order. If you want him to do a particular action, say the name along with the command.

Because puppies are eager to please, they are easily trained. To rear up smart and well-mannered puppies, you have to learn how to train them the right way first. The rewards you will be reaping with your pet will definitely be worth more than the time you invest in training your puppy.
