Putting Aggressive Dog Behaviour in Check
It is possible for any dog owner to correct aggressive dog behaviour. Your success though depends largely on the techniques that you use and how well you execute them. There are some basic tips that you can easily start with.
Use Commands Consistently
Commands are a basic component of obedience training. They do have to be used appropriately and consistently though. You should for example always use the command sit before putting food on your dog’s dish. This will teach an aggressive dog that sitting is a requirement for feeding. Another example would be to always demand that you come first before your dog. You should always let your dog stay or sit behind you so you can exit a room first. This sends the message to your dog that you are the alpha.
Be Firm all the Time
You have to use a solid and firm voice if you want to curb aggressive dog behaviour. Aside from your voice quality, it is also crucial that you never give in to your dog especially when you have already previously forbidden an act. Jumping on you and bouts of excessive barking should never be tolerated and should be corrected immediately after they are done.
Reward Your Dog for Being Good
Aggressive dog behaviour can be counteracted with positive reinforcement. Once your dog learns o obey your commands and responds to you as your subordinate, you can start rewarding it. Give it a treat or words of praise if it acts properly. Be sure to give rewards immediately after a good deed is performed.
